　　该剧根据同名经典黑色小说（noir novel）改编，由奥斯卡影后凯特·温丝莱特（Kate Winslet）主演。故事发生在美国经济大萧条时期，女主人公Mildred Pierce Beragon与失业的丈夫Bert（Brian F. O'Byrne）分了手，靠一份女服务员的工作维持生计。她一方面想维持自己的社会地位，另一方面又渴望独立和自由。在为生活奔忙的同时，她还要想尽一切办法赢得女儿Veda（Evan Rachel Wood）的爱与尊重。Guy Pearce扮演Mildred的情人，一个富有的花花公子。James LeGros扮演Bert以前的商业伙伴。Melissa Leo扮演Mildred的好友。Morgan Turner扮演童年时的Vada。　　可以预见，明年金球奖和艾美奖与电视迷你剧有关的主要奖项都将归属这部剧集。
